You may receive notifications through email or in the Diagnostics tab in TikTok's Events Manager that potentially prohibited data was identified in the data you’re sharing. Prohibited data includes information about people that is not in compliance with TikTok's terms and policies. Sharing prohibited data is a violation of the TikTok Business Products (Data) Terms section 2.8. Learn more about notifications of potentially prohibited data sharing on TikTok.
If you receive a notification from TikTok that potentially prohibited data was identified in the data you shared, you should follow the instructions below and immediately take steps to review and update your implementations to ensure your data sharing complies with TikTok's Data Terms.
How to resolve notifications of potentially prohibited data sharing on TikTok
To check your content and connection for prohibited data:
Use Pixel Helper, to view the data being sent to TikTok and ensure it aligns with data sharing policies and does not include data that may be deemed sensitive. For more information about data collection policies, refer to TikTok Business Product Data Terms and the TikTok Privacy Policy.
Go to the Diagnostics tab in TikTok Events Manager to see information about the types of data and sources that TikTok identified. Review the diagnostic information to determine which parameters, from which pages, were identified.
Review your Pixel or Event API integration to make sure you aren't sharing prohibited data from anywhere on your website or app. This can include URLs from pages with Pixel or Events API installed, UTM parameters, and the names you have chosen for custom audiences or custom events.
Update your integration to stop sharing any prohibited data with TikTok.
Refer to TikTok's Business Help Center or contact your partner at TikTok for questions. For assistance in developing a data sharing compliance plan, please work with your own legal counsel.
While TikTok's systems are designed to filter out prohibited data they’re able to detect, you are ultimately responsible for the data you share with TikTok. You are in the best position to ensure your integration does not send sensitive or prohibited data to TikTok.
To check if prohibited data is being sent with your events, you can use TikTok's Pixel Helper and review pages, parameters and URLs that were recently received. Learn how to view pages, parameters and URLs in TikTok Events Manager.
How to check if prohibited data is being sent with your events
When you check if prohibited data is being sent with your events, consider the following:
Pages and parameters
Check the specific pages where you have placed your TikTok Pixel code and assess whether those pages, including the URL, contain information that may be considered prohibited data or if you don’t want to continue to use the pixel on those pages.
You can use the pixel on specific pages of your website that are relevant to your advertising and remove it from the specific pages where you don’t want to continue using the pixel. For example, you shouldn’t send information about people from web pages where visitors may provide sensitive information, such as patient data portals or web applications for financial account management or tax preparation. Note: These examples are non-exhaustive.
Analyze data fields, such as forms, on your webpages and the data you send with events. This can include product IDs, content names, Custom events, URL query parameters, and urchin tracking module (UTM) parameters. Ensure that these fields and parameters do not contain prohibited data. For example, UTM parameters in a URL string may contain prohibited data from the landing pages viewed.
Custom events
You can set up custom events with Event Builder in Events Manager or directly via the Pixel and Web Events API. When you use these advertising features, make sure you’re not sharing prohibited data with TikTok.
For example, your custom audience must not reflect or imply any prohibited data about people, including in the name you choose and the criteria you establish. Prohibited data includes a person's health-related data such as medical conditions, medications or medical treatments, or their financial data such as insurance, tax, income or filing status.
To review custom events in Events Manager, click the Tools tab, select the name and ID of the data you want to review, scroll down to the events table, and then select the event you want to review.
